I saw the IRT adaptation of “Romeo & Juliet” with my English Pre-AP class. I found it to be better than I had expected. The first half was very interesting and kept my attention, but the second half failed to do so. The love between Romeo and Juliet wasn’t as strong as it should have been. And the hatred between the two families wasn’t either. But overall, the play was pretty good.

  • Ryan C says:

The play was overall pretty good. I thought the ending was boring in comparison to the beginning and middle. I thought the beginning and middle were fantastic. I especially liked Mercutio and the nurse. They had great enthusiasm and the nurse could from comical to tragic very well.
One thing I liked a lot was the lighting and sound effects. The sound effects were subtle and I thought they were perfect. Also the lighting was great, especially in the scene where Romeo and Juliet wake up early in the morning. The lights kept getting brighter, symbolizing that it was getting farther into the day.
Overall I thought this was a wonderful play. I thought the actors did a great job and I liked that it was modern. I would recommend that everybody go see this play. Congratulations to a wonderful play.

Last week, I went to see the Romeo and Juliet play at the IRT. I found the acting to be stupendous compared to the other variations of this play. The use of creative lighting in this performance was absolutely unbelievable. The atmospheric lighting used when Friar Laurence was speaking was phenomenal. The natural sounds they used were pleasing, and enhanced the overall experience. For example, when Mercutio was asleep in the car, when they woke him up, you could really feel the noise.
The acting, in my opinion was exceptional, every actor knew where they had to be and performed their scenes flawlessly, however, I feel that Romeo and Juliet were lacking chemistry, so to speak. All in all, I was glad that I went to see this performance and am eager to see how others felt.

I think that the Romeo and Juliet play was raw, bruh. I think that the play was very well represented through the theme they chose. Though some parts were hard for me to understand I still enjoyed the play. I also enjoyed the day off school. My favorite character was probably the nurse or Mercrutio. Though, I did enjoy when Tybalt got ghetto shanked because of the fake blood. So he is probably up there too.

I liked the stage set up all until Romeo and Juliet “consummated their marriage” (wink, wink ;) ) in her back yard. I thought it was strange. But I still thought they did a very good job staying I character. :)
    Go IRT!

  • Crystal Adams says:

Words cannot explain the emotion put into the IRT play Romeo and Juliet. The lighting of the play was so amazing and the actors preformed astoundingly. Tybalt performed a good performance and was my overall favorite actor! (He was also hot!) I’m not going to tell you everything was perfect because it wasn’t but nothing is perfect after all. I thought that Juliet and Romeo lacked chemistry and that other parts of the play were more with feeling than their love towards each other.

  • Sydney H says:

This was a very interesting production of Romeo and Juliet. I really liked how it was set in the 1940s and how the Capulets were African American and the Montagues were Caucasian. I think that made it easier for the people to relate to the play since racism is a serious issue even today. I loved how the costumes were somewhat modern and not medieval. I really enjoyed the fake blood too because it made the fighting scenes seem more realistic. The lighting was incredible! I liked how when the setting changed from morning, to afternoon, and then to night, the lighting made it look like that time of day! It was so neat! The stage was brilliant, too. The car was a nice touch. Great Production!

  • Dizzle Lizzle (Dylan Lewis) says:

Last Friday, I went to the IRT with my Pre-AP English class to watch their adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Overall, the most energetic and exquisite actors were the nurse, and Mercutio. They showed the most emotion out of anyone else on the stage during any point in the play. Mercutio brought about a sense of humor in the play that I think Shakespeare had intended to be evident in the play. However, the nurse also had humorous scenes and also had several tragic scenes. The actress who portrayed the nurse was obviously the most passionate of any of the actors or actresses. I was impressed with the lighting and subtle audio that went along with the play. On a scale of one to ten, I would give this play an eight.

  • Ethan D. says:

Romeo and Juliet, a classic play written by a classic play write. My English class went to see this fascinating play at the Indiana Reparatory Theatre. There were some interesting and some disappointing parts in this play.
One thing I liked was the job the actors did in the play. I thought that the nurse and Mercutio did the best in the whole play. The nurse could go from either really funny, or not serious, to being tragic and very serious. Mercutio was funny basically the whole time, bringing comical relief to the play which made many people laugh.
But one thing I did not like was that they had only one scene for the whole play. At one time, Juliet’s bedroom looked like it was in her front yard which doesn’t make since. Another thing that I didn’t like was the ending of the play. After the intermission, I think that the rest of the play went downhill and didn’t keep me interested anymore.

    Romeo and Juliet

The IRT play Romeo and Juliet was better than what I thought it was going to be. I expected it to be a boring play because I’m not really a play kind of guy, and I think Romeo and Juliet is a little love story that wouldn’t really be entertaining. But the first half of the play I thought actually was pretty good, it was better than reading it or understanding it in class. I liked the first half of the play so much better than the second half of the play, the first half was great, but the second half just didn’t do it for me.

I liked the actors and actresses I think they all did a wonderful job, especially the nurse she did a really good job. The only thing I didn’t like about the acting was I didn’t feel the love between Romeo and Juliet. I also thought the lighting was cool they really went over the top with the changing of the lights during the judging section of the play. I think that they should change sets sometimes though, because the whole bedroom on a lawn I just couldn’t really picture it, both of the IRT plays I have seen used one set, and I don’t think I like it like that, but if you try to imagine it being where they try to make it seem like it’s not so bad.

I thought that the play was really a fun trip to take and they did an excellent job overall, but the stage being one through the whole play I just don’t really like I think its kind of the easy way out. But even a little bit of a change would be nice, thanks for a wonderful presentation!

  • Joel Astudillo says:

I found the Romeo and Juliet play I watched at the IRT was overall not bad. I was really into it at the beginning of the play due to the amount of energy all the actors were giving and without needing to try and capture the Shakespeare message I was able to more thoroughly understand the play. The lighting was good, not what I was expecting though. The acting by the actors was great, in the beginning I was overcome with excitement. After intermission though I felt the actors started to ease up and, well, didn’t do so good, and I could feel that during this time. Overall though, I really enjoyed this play and the style of it was good. Modern and very enjoyable!

  • Tevin says:

Romeo and Juliet is a well composed play written by the famous William Shakespeare. This adaptation of it at the IRT was very interesting. The conflict between the Capulets and Montagues was very evident due to the racial difference. The actors were amazing at performing their characters, and truly brought them to life. The nurse was my favorite; she made the whole audience laugh several times. This helped me stay awake because that play is very long. Also the sexual humor was not too inappropriate for a younger audience. Overall this is a well put together play, and I encourage Shakespeare fans to see it!

I enjoyed this play very much because it was a more modern type of play. It also was a lot easier to understand Romeo and Juliet in a play form instead of in a book form. The lighting was very nice and I enjoyed it a lot. I wish they would have had more different sets though. The actors were amazing, especially Mercutio, he was hilarious. Romeo and Juliet played their parts well but they lacked chemistry.

  • Eddie B says:

The Romeo and Juliet play was a lot better than I thought it would be. I really liked the fact that the costumes were modern and not old fashioned. The actors did an excellent job memorizing their lines, and I didn’t see anybody make mistakes. The props were used very well, and all the props were incorporated. The only thing that I had a problem with is that Romeo and Juliet I thought really didn’t have the love connection that was portrayed in the book. One of my favorite actors of the play was Mercutio because he was very funny and brought a lot of energy to the set. All in all I really enjoyed the play.

  • Ashley Sexton says:

I liked the play Romeo and Juliet because it was in a different time period. I liked how they used the props, but it was hard for me to picture it was her bedroom when they had the bed in the yard. I didn’t really notice the sounds that much, besides the banging on the car. The lighting was effective when it was supposed to be morning, it actually looked like it was morning. When they were doing the tomb scene it actually looked like the dim lighting in a tomb. Overall the play was very funny especially with Mercutio and the nurse. I thought that when Mercutio died it wasn’t very interesting anymore and I was starting to fall asleep.

  • Mercedes Chambers says:

Recently my class attended the Romeo and Juliet play, and I have to say it was better than I expected it to be. The modern adaptation of the play was very interesting. I liked that the set was based in the 50′s or late 60′s and I liked how IRT used racial segregation as the Capulet-Montague segregation.
The actors lacked a bit of chemistry however. I especially felt a lack of chemistry between Romeo and Juliet, where I feel there should be the most amount of chemistry. I loved the nurses character and the way she brought a new light into her characters feelings and emotions. She used emotion not only behind her words but in her face and gestures.
I enjoyed the props used. After watching the giver, where they used only “imaginitive” plates and food etc., i liked that Romeo and Juliet used real plates and props such as tables, chairs, the car, and i liked the groceries especially. Also, I loved the blood packets used, it gave a lot more reality to the scene.
I enjoyed the old style, yet modern style costumes. Also, i liked that there werent many but few costume changes. It helped the characters stay consistant.

  • Ashley S. says:

“Then I defy you stars!” Only one of the famous lines from Romeo and Juliet. The play IRT commandeered. Shakespeare’s tragedy was not portrayed as well as I imagined. The chemistry and love did not flow through the two star-crossed lovers. At times the actors were hard to hear. The ending was dry. It lacked emotion. One character, however, was incredible. The Nurse brought tears to your eyes as she screamed in loss of Juliet. Even if you don’t understand Shakespeare’s language, you could understand her. The one-set stage got old when you reached Act Two. Then, randomly, a bed appears in the grass? What? The sound and lighting were creative. But the story, as I said before, lacked emotion towards the ending. Overall the story and emotion was dry, no feeling, at parts where there should have been.

  • Destiny Walker says:

IRT took a risk by putting Romeo and Juliet into a new time period. They took this famous, old play and put a new twist on it. In took place around the 1960’s where racial problems were one of the biggest ones. Romeo and his family were all Caucasian and Juliet’s were Africa American. They cut the play so it wouldn’t be quiet as long, but left most of the important lines and scenes in it. It was hard to tell what the conflict really was in this. The different races made it seem like that was the reason they couldn’t be together. The scene changes were hard to grasp because they had the bedroom the same place as the yard. So the bedroom was grassy and looked as if it was outside. My favorite character was the Nurse. She was all the extremes, hilarious, grieving, and happy. You could tell that she was very much into her character. The lighting was wonderful too. The way they had the spot light on the Friar when he talked, and the lighting in general could tell you the time of day they were in. It also helped the scene changes when the background couldn’t. Although I wasn’t fond of the way they did the whole production, I am a fan of the production. It was easy to understand what they were saying because of their body language, even when they were talking in Shakespearean. I would recommend this play to my friends. It was so outstanding, I saw it twice.

  • Esther Mishler says:

I think that the Romeo and Juliet play was very good. It had many ups and downs. The actors and actresses were very well casted. They portrayed their parts very well and knew their lines well. The stage was great! I just wish there would have been more scenes than just one. I thought that the fact that Juliet had a random bed in her yard was rather odd. But other than that it was AMAZING!!!

  • Laura Lawrence says:

I partly enjoyed the Romeo and Juliet play. It was a cool theme with the 50′s look or whatever that was, (I don’t really know my time periods very well). But I thought the set could’ve changed a little bit more all throughout the play, which would have made the play more exciting. I also think that Romeo and Juliet acted a bit awkward together. I didn’t really feel the love. The thing that ruined the whole play was the people who were watching it. I couldn’t really pay attention when the audience was being immature and making stupid comments. Other than that it was an enjoyable play, and I am very happy I that I went to see it.

  • Britney Edgell says:

Lighting, sounds, props, costumes; they all set the mood for the scenes in a play. In the play Romeo and Juliet, I think almost all of these things were done well enough for me to believe what I saw. The lights showed guided your attention throughout the play to the important characters or important information being spoken. For example, when the prologue for each act was spoken there was light only shining on the person who spoke. This showed me that it was something important and that I needed to pay attention to only that person. The sounds helped you understand the feeling of what was going on at the time. For example, whenever there was a fight there was always fast loud bangs to indicate the feeling of fear or intensity. The props and costumes helped the actors to get there point across. Overall, I think that the play was done well and that the actors were very believable in their performance.

  • Jannaye Huser says:

Romeo and Juliet had its own twist when I watched the performance at IRT. I liked the romantic parts of the play, however some parts were not my favorite. I did not enjoy the sexual comments added into the performance. I thought the costumes were chosen perfectly for the modern-day effect of the play for the actors, because it made the play almost seem like a film. I also believed the stage had a perfect set chosen for the play, because it portrayed an effect that made the play come across as a more of a 1960’s modern version of Romeo and Juliet. The sound affects and lighting added an excellent atmosphere to the performance, because it made the play come alive. Overall, I believed the play of Romeo and Juliet at IRT had many positive and negative aspects for the audience.

I think that made it easier for people to relate to the play since racism is a real issue in this time period. I loved how the costumes were somewhat modern and not medieval. I really enjoyed how the actors used fake blood during the sword fights. That was very neat! The lighting was incredible, also! It was so neat when it changed from morning, to afternoon, and then to night because the lighting really made it seem like it was that time of day! The stage was absolutely brilliant and the car was a nice touch. Great production!

I enjoyed the version of Romeo and Juliet that was performed by the IRT last Friday. It stayed true to the storyline of course, but maybe they could have put in a little more dialogue. The lighting was creative, but I wish there were more sets. The acting was okay, the nurse was pretty good, but Romeo and Juliet looked like they lacked chemistry. All in all it was a pretty descent play.

  • Amanda Hawkins says:

Wow, the “Romeo and Juliet” play, tears, laughs, and feeling like I was there with them in the time period! In my opinion, I thought the play was quite good, especially seeing the play twice. I have to give props to everyone who took part in the building of the IRT version of “Romeo and Juliet”. I thought, first and foremost that the actress who stared as the Nurse should get an award for her fantastic role! She made you laugh, she made you cry, she made you feel the grief, and she just completely made the play for me. The second actor I thought did fantastic was Mercutio, played by Ryan. I thought he kept the play lively and fun. I want to also thank him for coming to Highland to help us with our blocking, and I thank you for doing the highland shout-out at your curtain call. That made the experience of the theatre greater and more memorable for me. Overall, im glad I got to experience this great IRT version of “Romeo and Juliet”.

    Romeo And Juliet Review

IRT has productions of many plays and I only went to a few. My opinion of the play Romeo and Juliet is that it is the most exciting play I have when to at IRT. The actor did their part to stick to the storyboard, although they added some things. The actors did a good job of making the characters their own. It made the play more appealing by making it different. I liked how they put the sound and lighting together to make the effects of night and day. It made the play have a higher quality. The only thing I didn’t like about the play is that I missed half of it because someone head was in the way. There wasn’t really anything that could be done about that but I guest I missed some important things. I enjoyed going to the IRT and I hope I can go again.

  • Destiny A says:

On February 26, 2010 my English class went to the IRT’s profound production of Romeo and Juliet. I believe that the play fitted the script very well and it kept me very interested the whole time. My favorite character who I thought portrayed their part the best and gave the most emotion was the Nurse. It was a one stage act and it went along with the skit quite well. I though did not care how they portrayed the difference between the Capulet’s and the Montague’s. I think providing a race issue just caused a little tension for me because I feel as we should put that issue aside because people can find that very offensive, but other than that I enjoyed the presentation very much.
The Sounds during the play represented the actions going on in the play. The sounds helped you understand what was going on, and gave meaning to the actions. The lights on stage helped you see who was talking and who to pay attention to, and it was really interesting to see the different effects on stage.
Overall I think the play was very entertaing and it gave me a different perspective of Shakespeare. At first I thought it was going to be very boring and I did not understand the language. I think IRT is a good place to understand Shakespeare and I enjoyed it very much.

  • Kendrick Crisp says:

I thought this play was outstanding! It felt like the actors really knew their parts and how to act them out. I did have one problem with the play though; the second half was not as interesting as the first. I quickly lost interest and could not focus on the play.

The lighting worked for me. It helped me know who to focus my attention on. The sounds also worked for me. It helped me to know what was going on and what time of day it was, like when the birds were chirping I knew it was in the morning.

The actors did a very good job! I think they each fit their part. I liked the clothes they were wearing; it was a little more modern time. One thing I didn’t like was; the father didn’t show any emotion when they thought Juliet was dead.

What I like the best was the props! They really caught my attention. The blood was the best prop I think, it left me wondering how they did it.

Overall the play was spectacular! I really enjoyed it and hope we go back to see more plays!

  • Darien T. says:

And the Academy Award for best actress goes to the nurse in Romeo & Juliet. She gave the play its glamour by her outstanding acting skills from being funny to being serious when the time was needed. The props they used were also amazing. It was a good attention getter and had me wondering how they actually did it. The lighting made the play stand out a little bit, but it could’ve been better. I liked how the lights brighten up when it was morning or day time and when it darkened during the night. I really enjoyed the sound too and the costumes were enjoyable as well. Other than that, the play itself didn’t go so well for me. The scenes before intermission were great! It had a good attention getter that had me wanting to guess more what would happen even though I already knew what was going to happen. After intermission though, the play started to get boring and I quickly lost interest. I felt that the actors, minus the nurse, didn’t show much sorrow when Juliet faked her own death and then when she and Romeo died in the very end. If the play improved in that and some other attire, I would consider going to see it again. Other than that I wouldn’t.

  • Eric S says:

I thought that every actor and actress did the best they could to perform the play. The play was amazing and was very interesting in my opinion. I thought that the play did resemble the Shakespeare version very well. I was very surprised at how well the actor played it out even though the play had a long runtime. I loved the play and would enjoy to come again.

  • Jared Jenness says:

The IRT production of Romeo and Juliet was quite a first-class play. There were many great aspects of the play and no easily detectable bad ones. The play had a distinct atmosphere of the racial indifference period. This play had a good lighting and sound system as well. The play also demonstrated great use of one set that they used. The only complaint about that part was the tomb scene when Romeo and Juliet commit suicide. It was a bit stale near the end of the play but not terrible. The play overall was a 9 out of 10. That would have to be my rating, I really enjoyed it. IRT never disappoints.

  • Kelsey Key says:

I have just recently saw Romeo and Juliet at IRT on February 26, 2010. My favorite actress was the nurse. I feel like she played the part very well, and was very humorous too. The only thing that really did not work for me was the set. I felt like the death scene looked like they were not even in a mausoleum. Also when they were in Friar Lawrence’s cell it seemed like they were in Juliet’s backyard. The lights and sounds were really good. I really like when Romeo and the nurse were in Friar Lawrence’s cell and the lights looked like they did in the movie. Also I liked how you could hear the bird’s chirping when Romeo had to leave. My favorite thing of the play was the props and the costumes. The part when they were fighting and the fake blood looked real was really cool. I just really thought the costumes looked well with the play. Overall I feel like the play was good and all of the actors did a good job.

Thanks IRT for a great production!

On February 26, my ninth grade English class went to see an IRT presentation of Romeo and Juliet. I thought the play was very good, better than the previous play my class saw last fall.
The actors/actresses played their parts very well. Even though some of their words were lost to my inadequate-for-understanding-Shakespeare-ears, I could still understand what they meant through their actions and feelings. I especially enjoyed Nurse’s performance, when she found Juliet “dead” in her bed. However, by the end of the second half, I began to lose interest. Whether it was restlessness, a drop in performance, or audience members commenting out loud, I’m not sure, but I believe there was something missing.
The stage worked pretty well for me. When the scene changed, I understood that, and I had very little trouble telling where the characters were. The only time I had any problem was when the car was involved. Was the car permanently parked in the Capulet’s driveway? Or did it “move”? I was left wondering. I also enjoyed the special effect knifes. However I was so curious about how it happened, that I missed out on the tragedy of Mercutio’s death.
I loved the play. It was very interesting and well prepared. I’m very glad that I was able to have seen it.

  • Nolan Waymire says:

An old play with an interesting twist, but maybe better without it. Romeo and Juliet was portrayed skillfully by the actors into a more modern setting. Mercutio especially got a positive reaction from the audience; with his crude humor and rude dialect, he was the comic relief of the show. The nurse was also a source of comic relief, but she also bore a more serious role than in the original play. Even though there were creative liberties done with some roles, I think the character portrayal was very well done.
The lighting of the play helped them to pass seamlessly from one scene to the next. The important people were often spotlighted to keep attention on them, not on the actors that might be exiting or interring the play. The quick progression from scene to scene was important in that it kept the play moving.
What was not well done, however, was the modern theme failing to be as prominent in the second half of the play. It seemed as if it was just like the original version of Romeo and Juliet. For instance, Juliet’s drug was no different than in the original play, and tombs are no common sight in our day and age. Also, the interest level in the play slowly seemed to decrease towards the end. I can’t quite put my finger on the reason for this, but you could definitely sense it in the atmosphere.
Overall, I am impressed by the play and especially how it was portrayed by the actors. There were a few problems, but nothing that is not fixable for their future plays. I look forward to seeing an even better play in the near future. Thank you for listening to my considerations.

  • Olivia P. says:

The play, Romeo and Juliet, performed on February 26th, was excellent. The costumes the actors wore were great, they helped set up the characters. The props the characters had helped too. Mercutio and Tybalt both had dog tags. Romeo had a leather jacket, and it made me think that he was “cool”. Benvolio’s baseball cap gave me the impression that he was younger than his friends. The stage set was fine. It allowed my imagination to do what it wanted. I could picture things how I wanted to. It didn’t distract me from the play itself. The actors did great with the Shakespeare that they had to memorize. There were a few times where I couldn’t hear Juliet very well. Their hand motions, body language, and tones really helped get the point across. Sound effects helped with the mood. The bird in the scene where Romeo and Juliet are in bed helped me understand what they were talking about. The crickets let me know that it was night when Romeo came back to see Juliet. There were suspense building sounds that helped me get into the play. I thought the lighting was cool. I liked the Christmas lights they had on at the party, the white light when Romeo was at the Capulet’s house at night, the spot lights on the people after Juliet “died”, and the low warm lights when Romeo was in the grave with Juliet, Mercutio, Tybalt, and Paris. The way the dead people were covered in a sheet and the lights made it look like they play took place in Shakespearian times, not in the 1940′s.

Romeo & Juliet by: William Shakespeare

The play of Romeo and Juliet was amazing! The actors/actresses were exquisite in playing the modern, but also not so modern version of Romeo and Juliet. All of the sets of the play were put in appropriate areas where you could tell where they were and yet you were also somewhat confused because your mind is thinking that they are in one place when in reality they were somewhere completely different. The lighting was to die for when it went to one person in particular and lit up just that person and no one else. Other than the settings everything else was near to perfection, great job everyone. Brava!

On February 26, 2010 my English class attended IRT’s production of Romeo and Juliet. My favorite part of the play was the sound and lighting and also the way the story was portrayed in a modern theme. Personally my favorite character of the production was the Nurse, because of the bawdy attitude that she had towards serious topics. I think IRT did an awesome job in this production and I am looking forward to seeing it again. I give this play two thumbs way up. Great Job (:

  • Brock D. says:

Romeo and Juliet at the IRT in Indianapolis was a very good interpretation of the original play by William Shakespeare. The play was very well staged and the set fit the generation in which the play was set. Actors portrayed the parts very well and kept my attention on the play. My favorite roll in the play would have to be Mercutio. His arrogant attitude and crude jokes had me laughing for most of the first half. Props were another thing that kept me interested. They very well fit the scenes that they were used for. The blood was my favorite prop. I enjoyed it thoroughly and it was very well done. Great Job!

  • victoria robertson says:

The Romeo and Juliet play was amazing! The actors did a very good job of speaking Shakespeare, even if it was modern, they spoke the little bit they had to well.
They also did an amazing job saying there lines in front of the huge audience. I could never do that as well as they did. I give the play four stars. I liked how they had the background lit up in the cave it gave it an eerie feeling that made the audience want to pay more attention to what was going on in the play instead of what the people around them were doing.

  • mereena Pritt says:

Romeo and Juliet at the IRT was surprisingly interesting. I didn’t expect it to be as interesting, because I heard from some other students that had seen it before that it was boring. But I didn’t think so. I found that it was really easy to follow. My favorite characters were the Nurse and Mercutio. I liked the nurse because she was funny and more like an auntie. I liked Mercutio because he was really funny and relatable. He reminds me of the typical high school boy. The actors were very much in character all the time. They all kept me interested. Over all, as my first impression of Romeo and Juliet in live theatre was a very good one.

Romeo and Juliet at IRT was awesome! The actors were great! I could here them from clear in the back row! The music made me feel like I was in the play. The shadows the actors made the play intense. I loved the idea of the one set for everything. The only problems I had for the play was the tomb scene, it made me feel like the play wasn’t in the 40’s but back in Shakespeare’s time. Over all I loved the play!

This was my first time seeing Romeo and Juliet stage performed. I was very excited for it. One of the few things that I was impressed with was the lighting. An example of this is when Romeo and Paris confronted each other in front of the crypt. Their shadows in the background just helped build the intensity. Also the lighting while in the crypt was very creative. I almost didn’t notice Mercutio in the background in the crypt.
There is one main thing that bothered me. I can’t place my finger on what it is but after the nurse found Juliet dead in the play. The scenes after that didn’t seem as tense. Something around that area just ruined the tragedy part of the play. Even my peers agreed with me. I do wish the director and cast try to figure out way this happened.

The other day I went to go see the Romeo and Juliet play. I thought that everybody did a great job. It was fantastic. I loved the beginning when Friar Lawrence was reading the prolog and the lights made cool shadows behind him. But there were a few things that I did not like about it. One of them was that towards the second half of the show I began to lose interest. The reason might have been that in the first part what kept my interest was the comedy. I also didn’t like the fact that in the second half the play lost its modern feel. Overall I think IRT did a great job with Romeo and Juliet

Wow! The nurse. Yes! The nurse was absolutely fantastic. Every actor/ actress was good but the nurse brought a special charm to the stage. Overall the play was very good except I got confused during some of the scenes. Since the stage was the same the whole time, it was hard for me to actually understand the whole concept. I did think that everything else was good, and would give it five stars.

IRT’s production of Romeo and Juliet was in my opinion, put on very well. I liked the way they incorporated sound to build suspense. The star lights in the background during the evening scenes helped for a very good setting in support of the mood. I enjoyed the lights that came down when they were in the crypt. I thought they helped capture the attention of the audience. One of my favorite parts of the play was the way in which they demonstrated the differences in Romeo and Juliet’s family by race. It visually pointed out the distinction of the two families for me. I thought the actress who playing the nurse was particularly talented. She portrayed her role dramatically, and showed much emotion. Personally I thought the play of Romeo and Juliet was a success. I enjoyed watching it.
